Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

What even is this movie?

Review: This movie is the epitome of “I know and understand everything that happened in the movie, but I also have no idea what the heck I just watched.” This movie is centered around AI and the use of electronics will be extremely harmful for everyone in the future. Sam Rockwell plays this man from the future who comes back in time in order to stop a certain event from taking place and ruining the future. He travels back in time and heads to this diner where he believes the perfect group of individuals exists to assist him on his journey to save the future.

While that exact premise makes a lot of sense, as it’s the first 15-20 minutes of the movie, everything else that takes place in the movie after that setup makes no sense. Sam Rockwell does a great job at bringing a lot of humor and levity to his character, but ultimately the fun he brings doesn’t help the movie make any more understandable. I found myself very engaged in what was going on, but I did not fully understand what was happening, why they were doing what they were doing, or how their mission would actually save the future.

After watching and reading other reviews of this movie online, the movie is supposed to be more symbolic and thought provoking than it lets on, so if you don’t pick up on the small clues the movie gives you throughout you will not fully understand or appreciate the movie in what it is really trying to be. Because of this, I found myself in a real pickle, as I found myself fully engaged with the movie and finding some moments to be absolutely hilarious, but I did not pick up on those small clues or understand what the movie was presenting.

Overall, this movie is just weird. I enjoyed it enough, but I don’t think I ever want to revisit it. I don’t think I will ever fully understand what the movie was trying to be or say, so I don’t think it will be. If you end up watching this I would love to know, as I would love to know if you actually understood anything at all about this movie, because I sure didn’t.

P.S., if you are very confused by my review, please watch the trailer for the movie. It does a great job about showing how weird the movie actually is.
