Short Review: I know I’m late to the party with this one, but I finally watched Solo Mio. I don’t have a ton of thoughts on the movie, but I’ll be brief on the thoughts I did have:
I liked this movie so much more than I thought I would. Kevin James had so much going around Italy lost, depressed, and finding new love, and I had a ton of fun watching him do it. The story is cliche and predictable, but I really thought it was an unexpectedly fun rom-com, and that’s coming from someone who isn’t a huge fan of the genre. I truly think I’m probably swayed by my love of Kevin James, but I really thought the way they wove together a very sad story with whacky characters to be a super fun and sweet little rom com. One of the only things that I really didn’t care for was how forced Kim Coates and Johnathan Roumie’s characters (Jules and Neil) were pushed into the story in an almost unnatural way, but once I got to know them I liked their characters, but the way they seemed to be thrown in there was just a bit jarring.
While I haven’t seen a ton of Angel Studios’ movies, this is by far the best they have put out that I’ve seen.
P.S. - I’m a sucker for Andrea Bocelli, so the fact they had him and Kevin James singing together was just wonderful. I also liked the use of Napoleon Dynamite music at the end.
